“I had the opportunity to spend a month volunteering as a teacher at Gokuldham Nar. The experience surpassed my expectations and I came away feeling like the month I spent was not enough! As a volunteer, I taught English and IT at the school. In particular, I spent much of my time with a cohort of boys from Manipur, an Indian state currently afflicted with civil unrest. The children are eager to learn, fascinated with the stories we as volunteers bring from home and are a real joy to spend time with within and out of school hours. There is ample chance to bond with them! As a teacher, the workload can be heavy but I was given plenty of support with this as soon as I arrived at the school, being paired with a teacher. Volunteers are given opportunity to explore Gujarat through weekly day trips and participation in school events. With the school, a cow shed, water plant, temple and elder home nearby though, there is plenty to enjoy on site. I would highly recommend volunteering here!”
