Kerstin ...
I have been volunteering at the campus as an English teacher for 7 weeks. Working as a volunteer has given me a unique perspective on India’s rich history, vibrant culture, and profound values. The campus is a magical place with a most beautiful temple in its centre, a sanctuary for the swamis, a guest house, a residential care home for senior citizens, a hostel for boys. You’ll find a shelter for cows, and some more wildlife, like monkeys, peacocks, and parakeets, and even a water filtration plant. My time as a volunteer at the campus has been truly special. This experience has given me so much more than I could have imagined, and I’ll always cherish my time here.
From the moment I arrived, I felt embraced by the students, the teachers, staff, and the entire community. I have been thoroughly involved in all the activities on the campus, including celebrations at the temple, the kite festival, Indian Republic Day, a mass wedding, a cow ceremony, the inauguration of the new sport fields, and the distribution of prosthetic limbs, sewing machines and tricycles. Teaching English was more than just lessons—it was about laughter, shared moments, and building real connections. I absolutely loved working with the students. What made this experience even more special was how welcoming and helpful the students were. They took the time to explain their food, traditions, and culture to me with so much enthusiasm. Their kindness touched my heart, and I learned just as much from them as they did from me.
Joining the Hospital at Your Door team a few times gave me valuable insight into community healthcare efforts and the impact of accessible medical services, and a deeper appreciation for the dedication of those working tirelessly to serve others. Visiting the elderly home was another deeply touching experience. Connecting with the residents through photos and stories, seeing their smiles—it reminded me of the beauty of simple human connection. I want to express my gratitude for the warmth and wisdom I have experienced here. I left with a heart full of gratitude, carrying the friendships, and unforgettable moments I’ve shared here. The love and warmth of the students and everyone at the campus will always stay with me. Thank you. I would also like to thank Urvashi with all my heart for letting me have this experience. She took great care of us volunteers before, throughout and even after our stay. I would love to come back one day.
