Shweta ...

I had a wonderful time volunteering here. From the beginning, communication with Urvashi was brilliant with regular check ins from her and she answered all of my questions. They arranged airport transfers at no cost, the accommodation was big and comfortable, and the food was plentiful with a varied menu daily.
I loved volunteering with the ambulance team, we visited 4 or 5 villages a day and I got to learn a lot about the medical system in India and the medications used. The doctors taught me a lot about healthcare in India, skin conditions and treatments used in primary health care and this was a valuable experience for me as a medical student. I volunteered Monday to Saturday from 8.30am to 11.30am and 1pm to 5pm. There was downtime in some of the villages so the days were not tiring and I found the work interesting.
Outside of these hours there were lots of opportunities to get involved with the school and I was offered to spend some days working in the school instead which I didn’t do as I was happy to spend all my time with the ambulance teams.ષવી। In the evenings I was taken to lots of events and everyone was so kind and included me in any activity that was happening in the school. They sometimes will insist that volunteers are present for certain school events where they have photographers present, and I had to change my plans to attend so be prepared for this.
As a female, they were restrictive with me leaving campus on my own without permission and sometimes it was difficult to navigate this, but they are happy to accommodate if we leave in a group and they arrange transport for us. They cared about volunteers’ wellbeing and safety and this was evident throughout my stay. Overall, this was a great experience, one of the best workways I’ve done and I highly recommend it!
